Los Delfines Golf and Country Club
Tambor, Costa Rica
This spectacular, competition golf course, originally built by the Barceló Group, is located in beautiful tropical surroundings. The golf course was remodeled by Ulrich Lang, a Class A Superintendent since 1998 and a member of the GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendent Association of America).
Its new design offers more drama along with better views of the areas for spectators. The aim was to increase the quality and the strategic challenge of the golf course, addressing environmental concerns and reducing maintenance problems by changing the bunkers. Ulrich Lang worked on replacing the drainage for the bunkers and changed the design to produce typical English / European bunkers. These bunkers are respectful of the tropical climate and are better suited to withstand rainfall than the previous bunkers. The new, white-sand bunkers are now available to our guests.
Los Delfines golf course is home to the largest population of Scarlet Macaws in Costa Rica and is the only golf course in the world to offer sanctuary to 360 Scarlet Macaws that were previously freed from captivity.
“The survival of the Scarlet Macaw has been ensured through a controlled reproduction-in-captivity initiative, in the Nicoya peninsula.”
20 species of trees have been planted at Los Delfines golf course, for the Scarlet Macaws.
